New Balance’s Flimby 35th Anniversary
Last week we were presented with four classic New Balance silhouettes to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their factory in Flimby. This is quite an achievement as the brand is one of the very few that still produce athletic and lifestyle footwear in the United Kingdom.
The four pairs (1500, 991, 770 and Epi TR) are constructed with premium nubuck and leather in hues of navy, light blue, white and grey – typical New Balance colors. The pack is already available worldwide, but the best is yet to come.
The brand has invited six connoisseurs from all parts of the world to join them at the factory and produce a one-of-one shoe, for each and every one of them.
The collectors are Rob Stewart, Ida Broen, Richie Roxas, Thomas Lindie, Tom Knoll and Tiago Escada Ramos. They all had their own ideas, hence putting it all on the table and later on turn their most desirable design into life. Personally, I’ve held Tiago’s pair in hand more than once. On that note, all of us just wish we could see all the other pairs in real life.
“Quality” is New Balance‘s middle name and once again, they did not disappoint. We believe that the same standards were applied to the other one-of-one pairs, of course.
