More quality kicks from New Balance
Presented as part of the “Mid Century Modern” collection, this new iteration of the classic New Balance M998 is all about premium quality. The shoe includes a rightful balance of colors and materials.
Among the highlights is the herringbone toebox, the Horween leather inserts on the “N” branding on the side and heel tab, and also the hints of synthetic red on each side panel. The red and off-white midsole and the clean white lining complete the look.
The New Balance long-term view:
The New Balance M998 perpetuates the sportswear brand legacy and ethos. Most sneaker brands tend to focus on being able to last through the wear and tear of their customer base.
After all, and at the beginning (of the sneakers industry that is), hoarding a massive sneaker collection wasn’t near as popular as it is today.
When buying a pair of kicks, most expect it to last them a year (at minimum). This approach is really similar when it comes to runners.
Boasting high tech features and new materials, running shoes are among the earlier proponents of eye-popping prices. So, one pair was to last you for a while.
As such, footwear labels totally focus their designs on aesthetics and tech that was a bit gimmicky. Air, compression units, robust midsoles, fancy materials, it was all part of the “same” package.
Fortunately, the New Balance tagline would direct its focus elsewhere. All of the processes start with a man who wants to design shoes with better balance and fit when compared to the ones the current market provides.
The ultimate outcome? A complete set of quality shoes that have a beautiful design and incredible performance as their main characteristics.Catalogued with a Dark Grey and Terracota colorway, the New Balance M998 “Mid Century Modern” is available now at select stores such as KITH.
