Nike Air Max 95: Quality and Innovation
Designer Sergio Lozano was the one responsible for the original creation and design of the Nike Air Max 95. At the time, it was far from being an easy process.
Lozano faced a lot of resistance regarding the release of the shoe as was. And those questions and doubts came even from the designer’s own Nike team.
In 1995, a shoe like the AM95 was totally unique and almost exotic. Lozano’s previous work included projects with Nike ACG and also with the tennis and training departments.
The fact is that he never worked with running prior to the Nike Air Max 95. In fact, he had been working with Nike just for four years before taking on the Air Max project.
The time was also one of great importance: basketball had become a “major player” regarding Nike’s business and also all flow regarding production. In the mid to late 90s, the running department was really just trying to keep up.
The Nike AM95 was almost like a necessary venture for the brand to regain and boost the category that was so successful in previous decades.
