Nike has been doing pretty well in recent years. In fact, they never did that bad overall. Nowadays, as it seems, everything goes around retro-runners. Brands, in general, make it look impressively easy.

You know, just dig through a few hundred if not thousands of archive pages, tell a great story about it, create some hype and there you have it – sellouts. We agree that the Air Jordan 1 takes the lead and the spotlight, for obvious reasons, but there’s a bit more to be said. As much as the 90s style has returned at full speed (not only when it comes to footwear).

The truth is that back then, very few people would have placed the Nike Air Money as an on-court favorite. They have been considered an underdog for a while, but times have now changed. During NBA’s so-called golden era, not many players were rocking them on the court. That did not help the silhouette to be everyone’s favorites.

Another issue was that Nike was somehow always a step ahead when it comes to design. Hence, people took their time to accept its wild construction (the lacing system, to be more precise) that was never seen on basketball silhouettes.

Even though Ray Allen and Reggie Miller were spotted wearing them (Ray wore a white/black/dark cypress colorway to match his Milwaukee Bucks uniform while Mr. Miller wore he white/navy version on the Pacers). Apart from just a handful of collectors and sneaker enthusiasts, the silhouette went underground for years.

Originally released in 1996, the Nike Air Money featured a full-grain leather and Durabuck upper with ballistic mesh. As expected, a durable polyurethane midsole with a visible heel Air-Sole unit was also part of the deal.

    Air Money’s Big Brother

In this case and very much worth mentioning, the same exact midsole was also used on the Nike Air Much Uptempo, that has never been retroed, yet. On the other hand, his big brother, the Nike More Uptempo has received all the attention over the years due to its visible heel, midfoot and forefoot Air units.

The Nike Air More Uptempo, as of today, is more of a statement shoe rather than a basketball shoe, believe it or not. After the OG-retro release, a collaboration with Supreme and a few GRs (just like the amazing Uptempo ‘Light Bone’ colorway), the Uptempo is just unstoppable.

Also released in 1996, the Nike Air More Uptempo was made famous and endorsed by Scottie Pippen and Brendan Frasier in George of the Jungle. This is where the Nike Air More Money comes in. However, and more than 20 years later, Nike lets us have the best of both worlds.

We can even call it a hybrid – the Nike Air More Money, an audacious combination of both. More recently, the Nike Air More Money Global Currency Pack is just one of the more sought after Air More Money releases. If you got a bit of cash laying around, you can always head to Flight Club to get that same pair you missed out on.
