Bringing it back: Skepta x Nike Air Max 97
The Skepta x Nike Air Max 97 is here. Last year, we’ve seen Skepta working with Nike to launch the Air Max BW and now, one year after, another collaboration is on its way.
Joseph Junior Adenuga AKA Skepta is one of the biggest UK-Grime artists of all time, starting his career during the early 2000s. Today, he’s got a huge impact and influence when it comes to music street-like life.
Visiting Morocco, where inspiration was taken not only to design this shoe but also for his brand Mains, he took matters into his own hands and…oh well, what a beautiful pair of sneakers. It does not stop there – further inspiration comes from the 1999 Air Tuned Max, which was the first shoe Skepta bought with his own money.
A Nike Air Max 97 all about details
The details of this particular silhouette are immense. Embroidery can be found at heel and tongue, custom insoles and an original Sk logo in the shape of a UK electrical plug.
This same logo was also put around London as stickers before the official announcement of this collaboration to somehow annoy and taunt his followers.
He further adds that he’s “…been wearing Air Max for so long, since I was 7 playing around in the estate; Air Max is from when we were running the streets, it was comfortable to wear in London, whether you were going out to a club or kicking a ball in the streets.”
The Air Max 97 Sk will drop via SNKRS App and online on September 2.
