The brand new Tom Sachs x NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.0 is here. The NikeCraft initiative is yet another great example of the brand coming together seamlessly with high fashion and art.

Tom Sachs and the Swoosh come together to bring us the latest rendition of a very functional sneaker. This sneaker sees its original drop back in 2012, boasting a ton of functionality.

Back then, it was all about experimenting with some of the most unexpected and original fabrics. The first NikeCraft project included not only the Mars Yard but also a small capsule collection.

In 2012, Sachs used some pretty exotic and rare materials such as automotive air bags, mainsails for boats and sections of a space suit. Nowadays it is all about function and not (just) about design. At least, that’s the original goal.

The shoe ended up succumbing to some wear and tear after it was further tested, forcing a return to the drawing board. With Sachs, this is a natural part of his artistic process.

Tom Sachs x NikeCraf: Beyond Artistic Experimentation

The NikeCraft shoe sees strengthening in multiple areas. A polyester wrap-knit tricot mesh replaces the original Vectran upper. This makes it easier to cool the shoe off and minimizes internal heat.

We also see the different stitching on the donning straps and an outsole that is now more suitable for urban escapades.

At the end of the day, this sneaker is all about utility and durability. Dropping initially as a shoe to accompany the Camp Space project, these look ready to move into your regular rotation.
