Revisiting Diadora History

Diadora history is, in more than one way, similar to that of many successful brands. One young, ambitious human combines with just the right environment and circumstances. Of course, coincidence plays a huge role in all of this. But, even more, significant is an unending search for quality.

Diadora’s origins lay on the foundation of never compromising on the high quality of the brand’s footwear. In fact, this bordered on actual stubbornness.

Diadora v7000 capri Hanon

That insistence early in its history is essentially what kept Diadora from becoming a huge name in Ski boot manufacturing. That’s right, we are but a slight industry development in the early years from knowing Diadora for apres-ski boots.

History is funny like that, and the story behind Diadora is no different. Of course, the modern reputation the brand holds is one of the timeless silhouettes and stellar collaborations.

The N9000 and V7000 are no slouches, capable of inspiring line-ups on their own. But, the ultimate significance of Diadora history is the fact that it was, and still is, a family company that still calls Italy home. Artisinal spirit and all, the brand’s homegrown roots are something it continues to take quite seriously.

Wartime

Diadora’s place in Italian history is that of a modern symbol of national pride. The regular “Italia” versions of some of their most notable models are always a welcome sight.

Sporting higher quality and a focus on the materials, these sneakers represent an artisanal approach to footwear design that is indicative of the nation’s background.

Yet, this wasn’t always the case. In fact, the early years of Diadora’s conquest are ones of turmoil and civil unrest. The social conditions within the country, how its citizens saw each other, nearly held the company from ever forming. So, as it turns out, our story begins with war.

When World War 1 engulfs Italy in its flames, the country sees its soldiers deploy and fight. More specifically, many cities in the country are seen as established bases.

As it goes, a large number of soldiers were stationed in a small city nestled among the Trevigiani Hills. Here, in a town by the name of Caerano San Marco, a base of operations forms.

Thanks to the concentration of soldiers at this time, there is a constant need for supplies, mainly food and clothing. And, Coincidentally, Caerano also happens to be the birthplace of Diadora’s would-be founder, Marcello Danieli.

“Made in Italy” N9000 via Size?

Brand Beginnings

At the time, Danieli takes on the first, and perhaps the biggest, step in Diadora history. Having always been a creative young man, Danieli does not finish his schooling.

In this small town, it was customary for young men to leave school in search of ways to support their families. For the intrepid Danieli, the choice was shoemaking.

After all, at this point in his life, he’s much too young to enlist in the army. He would, fortunately, have plenty of time to practice his chosen craft as the locally stationed soldiers needed an immense amount of mountain climbing boots.

Thanks to this coincidence, Danieli has an opportunity to realize his intense focus on the small details of the design. But, of course, there are complications.

Danieli’s skill in footwear production only grows as he does. In fact, while his hometown supplies soldiers, the young man quickly gains a reputation for his impressive craftsmanship. He develops a reputation wholly on his remarkable work.

To put this into context, we’re talking about soldiers who are fighting and dying on the battlefront, noticing the quality of something as trivial as a boot.

A Victory Unites

To be sure, Danieli was impressive. But, his growth would take a backseat to the context of wartime. Italy manages to, more or less, survive two wars. In 1948, Italy is struggling with the reality of a post-war economy.

In short, struggles abound. Unemployment is rife, poverty rising in unison with it. Consequently, the country is set upon by a wave of anger and frustration.

As it turns out, the North and South of Italy are beset with ideological differences that inspire violence and bloodshed. It was, frankly, not a great time to be a young man with a whole bunch of talent and creativity.

But, something wonderful happens to eventually bring the country together. Sport, as it often does, helps Italy forget the madness and violence that comes with unemployment.

In 1948, the Tour De France sees its 35th year only get more brutal. However, the result would prove more important than the actual race. The winner that year is Gino Bartali, his second Tour De France win in ten years.

Timing is Everything

In a country that seemed divided right down the middle, this was a huge moment in Italian history. The cultural and ideological split between the North and South takes a backseat to the monumental national pride that comes with this win.

Class-based struggles, fury over poverty, it all goes silent as an entire country comes together in a swell of pride. Now, the time is right for a certain talented shoemaker to make something of his craft.

The feeling of unity – and the resulting calming of tensions – in Italy becomes the perfect environment for business. It’s also a convenient time for more specific reasons.

Danieli is still young but boasts the experience of a master craftsman. Even after the war, his work is in high demand. As such, it only makes sense to kick off a venture of your own. Hence, a brand is born.

There is plenty of speculation when it comes to the Diadora meaning. The best explanation comes to us from the brand’s own origins, dating it back to Greek origins and a misspelled word.

Regardless, the real emphasis of Diadora history is in the deep catalog of high-quality products the brand boasts.

A Time to Spend on Quality

A cursory look at the brand’s retro offerings shows a very clear leaning. Diadora rarely spends time on the front pages of sneaker magazines or on footwear hype forums.

It’s not a brand that boasts any high profile endorsements. There is no real Diadora hypebeast. But, the respect for quality is clear and apparent.

From the older sports models to the retro pieces that have dropped in the last few years, there’s no question. Danieli’s brand might not ever lose its focus on the high standards of materials and design.

That is the sort of philosophy that drove Danieli, and his wife, to take Diadora to further heights. The 60s represent a time of economic boom for Italy.

With wartime a distant memory and free elections now a standard, Italy’s future looks brighter in the 60s. As a result, the nation’s economy sees an upturn, pulling entire families out of the depths of poverty.

For Diadora, this meant that people would be better prepared to spend more money on things like footwear. After all, how an entire country’s economy is faring can be the deciding difference between shoes as a once-in-a-generation purchase or a more frequent purchase.

Starting on Slopes

From its start, Danieli kicks off his venture by working on some mountain climbing boots. That’s right, one of the top names in retro runners was crushing the game via hiking shoes.

In fact, were it not for a small but significant development in the industry, both mountain climbing, and ski boots might have been a prominent part of the collection. But, ski boot manufacturing took on the heavy use of cheaper plastic. As time wears on, this technique becomes a standard.

Unfortunately, Danieli didn’t feel the same way as some other names in the ski-boot manufacturing sector. As soon as this plastic design detail was a norm, he moves on from the specialty.

To be sure, this decision has nothing to do with his ability and skill. Rather, it has everything to do with the very idea of sacrificing quality for the sake of a bottom line.

From the “Make it Bright” campaign, the N9000, via Diadora

The move away from that particular sector really opens things up for the brand. The 70s are a time when Italy sees a remarkable rise in the youth sports movement.

From football and basketball to tennis and running, it started to seem like Italy was facing a sporting renaissance. Consequently, the need for performance footwear becomes remarkable.

Long known for their artisanal and visual pieces, the Italian footwear market had no real performance presence at this time. After introducing walking trainers, there is a boom that comes in forms such as Diadora running shoes.

Two of the areas in which the brand started to earn legendary status were tennis and football.

Big Names

In tennis, Diadora managed to snag the endorsement services of Bjorn Borg. Now, Borg, in a modern context, is considered one of the greatest to have ever played the sport on any surface.

This makes Diadora’s sponsorship unique enough. But, it’s worth noting that this deal was made just before the very highest of the champion tennis player’s peak. It would solidify Diadora in the larger arena of tennis shoes.

The release of the Borg Elite – known now as the Diadora B. Elite – was one of the most significant moments in the western sports and culture. It signifies more than the prolific Grand Slam winner.

The Borg Elite is the symbol of a tennis past that grappled with its own rigidity, even before the advent of Nike and Andre Agassi.

Family = Longevity

In business, companies are constantly taking on the challenge of survival. Often times, this requires a very critical amount of change and adjustment.

This is no different in the performance footwear industry. Diadora, even if witnessing their growth during a time of economic boom, had to find ways to prevent a downfall.

As you might have already guessed, they’re still here. There are many reasons for the brand’s longevity, beginning with their maintained focus on high-quality designs.

But, there’s an even more central element. Diadora history has always been about family. The company starts as an enterprise between a husband and his wife.

Eventually, Danieli’s sons would play a pivotal role in its further development. In fact, even the athletes the company endorses have always been an important voice in its history.

Borg never went very long without sending in some input about a sneaker design or concerns about an ad. Roberto Bettega, the legendary Juventus striker, and Diadora signee was another example.

In the early days of Diadora football boots, Bettega’s input was treated as critical to every stage of development and design. In the eyes of the Danieli family, footballers such as Bettega and Francesco Totti are the most integral part of the performance sneaker design process.

After all, how would one know where the sweet spot of a striker-specific boot is without the help of an actual forward? It only makes sense.

Future as Bright as Past

What also makes sense is Diadora’s continued relevance within the larger sneaker community. The brand still holds a surprising chunk of the football boots market.

But, perhaps more telling of the success behind Diadora history, and its staying power is its roster of retro models and collaborations.

Primarily, the N9000 and V7000 seem to never miss. From iteration to iteration, the brand’s focus on high quality and technical brilliance does not waver.

Collaborations with some of the bigger names in the sneaker game have shown us some indisputable proof of this.

The Borg Elite, now known as the B.Elite, via Diadora

Of course, there are several reasons one might worry about the company. But, they fall by the wayside when we go back to the brand’s historical presence.

Born of talent, hard work and opportunity, this isn’t merely a footwear provider. This locally rooted name is the realization of a Diadora Italy. The name might have shown itself in prosperous times, but it remains through thick and thin.

Diadora Tokyo Trainers Review:

Throughout 2017, we have seen the Italian brand trying very hard to stay among the best brands ever. They have been around since the late 40s. Diadora was created by Caerano di San Marco and its heritage is just immense.

After all, some models are more popular than others, including collaborations. Nevertheless, there’s much more to what is considered to be hype in today’s perspective.

If you need something a little bit more discrete yet powerful when on feet, one of the best options is going to be the Tokyo model. This sports silhouette is made from a suede upper with a contrasting Diadora-stripe on the side panel.

All of these retro models sit on top of a gum-sole. Originally released in the 80s, these shoes were everyone’s favorite when it came to the football scene, creating a whole lifestyle around it.

The Diadora Tokyo came back to the market quite a few times. Also worth the mention is the fact that they are pretty cheap for what they really are, costing around 90€.

The best Ronnie Fieg collaborations

Were you looking for the ultimate list of the best Ronnie Fieg collaborations? Totally updated with some of the best kicks the designer has ever created? If so, you’re in the right place.

For those of you that don’t usually follow the “sneakers feed” you just might be asking yourselves the question who is Ronnie Fieg? Well, Ronnie Fieg is one of the most creative and notable footwear designers there is.

Sneaker connoisseur and aficionado, fashion designer, footwear renaissance man, Mr. Fieg is all that and much more. Without further ado, we proudly present 40 of the Best Ronnie Fieg Collaborations of All Time:

Ronnie Fieg for David Z x Asics GT Quick

Ronnie Fieg for Daviz Z x Asics GT Quick

Ronnie Fieg and David Z have collaborated and worked on this particular release. After digging into the archives, the GT Quick was the chosen silhouette for this particular drop.

Even today, the shoe does not get enough love, but we believe these, in particular, are quite awesome. Black, purple and blue were the chosen colors and was launched together with Complex.

Nowadays, it is not an expensive pair to buy within the resell community, it is just very hard to find.

Ronnie Fieg x Culture Shoq x Asics Gel Lyte III

ronnie fieg culture shoq asics gel lyte III

Limited to 190 pairs for men and 24 for the ladies, the Culture Shoq Gel Lyte III blends three mains colors – white, black and purple. They were not everyone’s favorite back in the day, and nowadays the same opinion is shared.

Even though we fell in love with it, details are seen in the perforated toe box and 3M details. In addition, you can find out more about this sneaker right here.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Cove”

ronnie fieg asics gel lyte iii

In a Caribbean photo-shoot, Ronnie Fieg has decided to show us his “Cove” version of the Gel Lyte III, inspired by a secret getaway spot in the Bahamas. Limited to 255 pairs in the world, these joints are one of the most sought-after GL3 from the one and only. As known, later on, a Gel Lyte V iteration was set to be released.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Super Blue”

asics gel lyte iii super blue

New York retailer David Z received, yet again, another collaboration by Ronnie Fieg – the Super Blue. The Gel Lyte III comes in grey hues, contrasting with blue on side panels and laces.

This pair, in particular, was limited to 252 units. It is not an impossible pair to find on the resell market, but be prepared to pay at least an arm and a leg for them.

adidas x Ronnie Fieg Metro Attitude High “Overcast”

ronnie fieg adidas overcast metro attitude hi

Most probably you have never heard of this collaboration. It’s okay, the release was rather quiet on this one. The adidas Metro Attitude Hi “Overcast” is built using premium materials (high-grade nubuck and tumbled leather as well as micro-perforated leather).

Back then, you could flex amongst friends with lace options (lime green, grey, and a lace that fades from dark navy to white). Details are seen on insoles – R4D AKA Ronnie for David Z. Limited to 250 pairs, these were exclusively found at David Z’s website.

Nice Kicks x Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “2.0”

asics x nice kicks x ronnie fieg gel lyte iii 2.0

These Gel Lyte III designed by Ronnie Fieg has a grey monochromatic buttery suede upper and were limited to 300 pairs worldwide. Plain and simple, just how we like it.

However, it is almost impossible to find a pair in deadstock condition – well, if you find one, we hope you have your credit card ready!

Ronnie Fieg x Red Wing 6″ “Navy Ash” 875 Boots

Ronnie Fieg x Red Wing 6" "Navy Ash" 875 Boots

Not everything should be about sneakers. Ronnie has also collaborated with Red Wing and these are our favorites. The Ashy Navy 6″ released in Autumn of 2009 and were built using navy distressed leather.

For the time, this was quite an expensive item, priced at $250.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel-Lyte III “Navy Aqua”

Ronnie Fieg X Asics Gel lyte III Navy Aqua

Dubbed the “Navy Aqua”, this iteration of the Gel Lyte III was sold exclusively at David Z and the pairs limited to 252 units. The mesh on the toebox allows the silhouette a retro look.

The white laces make it all pop even more due to its dark upper altogether with white details on the tiger stripes and midsole.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Salmon Toe”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III "Salmon Toe"

The Salmon Toe was the first “important” release in Kith NYC. Once they released, the pair came in a wooden and engraved special box. There are rumors stating that 70 pairs were produced – of which only 40 were numbered for collecting purposes.

Thirty-two of those pairs came with the normal Asics box. This is the most sought after Gel Lyte III of all times, we believe, even thou a second Made in Japan version was released recently, with a few different details.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Super Green”

Ronnie Fieg X Asics Gel-Lyte III Super Green

Officially, the Super Green OG never hit retailers. 300 pairs were produced with the intention of being donated through Soles 4 Soles to Haiti residents. Even though that was the plan, we can see a few pairs floating around the Internet for crazy amounts of money.

A few years later, we came across a Made in Japan version, but you know how it works – the OG will always be the OG.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics GT-II “Ultra Marine”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics GTII "Ultra Marine"

The GTII is most probably, the most underrated commercial silhouette ever to be produced by Asics. Loved by many and unknown to others, the “Ultra Marine” was released back in 2011.

The shoe displays a vibrant-colored upper built with premium pigskin nubuck with marine-inspired details at the tiger stripes.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Flamingo”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III "Flamingo"

The Flamingo is one of the all-time favorite colorways of the Gel Lyte III created by Mr. Fieg. Premium Nubuck, mesh toebox and an awesome colorway. What else can you ask for?

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Knicks”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III "Knicks"

Inspired by NBA team “Knicks”, the New York City iteration mixes royal blue and orange colors for the upper built using premium nubuck. Even though this pack was released together with the “Miami Beach”, we truly believe that the “Knicks” stand out the most.

They were released back in 2013 and were available to purchase in a limited time pop-up shop in Miami and thereafter, at Manhattan and Brooklyn flagships.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Mint Leaf”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III "Mint Leaf"

Inspired by Ronnie’s childhood spent with his grandparents in Zichron Yaakov, a small town in Israel, this collaboration translates to love and family tradition. Sitting on a grey outsole, the “Mint Leaf” upper contrasts in such a great way.

This iteration of the Gel Lyte III was released for men and women (size run: US4.5 – US13)

Ronnie Fieg By Sebago x Theophilus London Penny Loafer

Ronnie Fieg By Sebago x Theophilus London Penny Loafer

You weren’t expecting these! Ronnie Fieg was in the Dominican Republic working on his S/S12 collection and Theophilus was there for a concert. He passed by Sebago’s factory in Santa Domingo and there it started.

Representing Theo unique style and a current state of mind, nothing better than a classic Penny. This pair is a 1-of-1 and was made with Jet-Black 2H premium suede and black patent leather, altogether with the traditional Sebago’s leather sole.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Saga “Manzarine”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Saga "Manzarine"

Ronnie Fieg said that this special colorway for the “Manzarine” took a while to be on point. However, quality leather and an awesome colorway was the final result.

These Gel Saga were limited to 300 pairs worldwide and released together with a 26OZ Canadian Fleece Made in USA Letterman Varsity Jacket.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Saga “Neptune”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Saga "Neptune"

Once again, the New York designer and Kith owner Ronnie Fieg released another Gel Saga. Slate grey is the main hue found on the nubuck upper, featuring white and blue accents.

Details are seen on the lavender lining, something that you may not notice at first glance. This pair was considered a Kithstrike.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Leather Back”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III "Leather Back"

The “Leather Back” seem quite obvious, at least when it comes to the construction of these Gel Lyte III. Black is the predominant color, while details are seen in close-to-turquoise color on the tiger stripes and outsole.

It finishes off with a dark grey perforated suede toebox.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics GTII “Rose Gold”

ronnie fieg asics gt ii rose gold

Almost two years went by since Ronnie thought about this colorway. Inspired by an old photo that he took, the “Rose Gold” features a pigskin upper, nubuck tiger stripes and a perforated tongue and toebox. Contrasting with its white midsole, you can find a cinder-ish outsole and blue accents on the woven label and around the Asics stripes.

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 1600 “Daytona”

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 1600 "Daytona"

The New Balance 1600 “Daytona” are inspired by Ronnie’s trips to Daytona Beach in Florida. Micro-perforated leathers are seen throughout the whole shoe.

The details are just immense altogether with an ABZORB midsole adding high shock absorption and comfort when on feet. To top it all off, 3M details are seen in white, pink and ultramarine, coinciding with the three lace options.

Ronnie Fieg x Clarks Kildare

Ronnie Fieg x Clarks Kildare

Ronnie created, yet again, something totally original. These Clarks Kildare have a trainer upper placed on top of a crepe sole, keeping Clark’s DNA intact. The upper is made from water-resistant pigskin suede, perfect for rainy April – the month they were released.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte V “Volcano”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte V "Volcano"

“To help reflect Kith’s current state of growing not only as a shop but now as a full on brand, I felt ready to create a shoe that was inspired by Kith growing out of its ‘active stage’ and hopefully to its future state of eruption” – those are Ronnie’s words.

Featuring a pink-ish neoprene tongue with matching details on the side panel, the upper mixes red-hues made from premium nubuck, pigskin, and mesh.

These are one of the most sought-after models of the Gel Lyte V ever to be produced. Later on, Mr. Fieg released the Volcano 2.0 collection.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Total Eclipse”

asics ronnie fieg gel lyte iii total eclipse

The “Total Eclipse” is quite a discrete pair, however, fierce when on feet. The toe box is jet-black leather altogether with navy nubuck on the upper, contrasting with red accents.

The silhouette sits on a white midsole. As the name says, this pair resembles and simulates a total eclipse.

Ronnie Fieg x Puma Disc Blaze “Coat Of Arms”

Ronnie Fieg x Puma Disc Blaze "Coat Of Arms"

Ronnie Fieg started collaborating with Puma in 2012. After the release of the “OG Cove”, the COA comes to life in two different colorways – Mint and Coral. Both display pebbled black leather, brushed nubuck, premium leather, 3M brandings and 3M speckled midsoles.

Two colorways were released, however, our favorite remains the “Mint” pair. Apart from KITH, these sneakers could be purchased in Men’s Fashion Week in Paris. Find out a bit more right here.

Ronnie Fieg x Pony M-110

Ronnie Fieg x Pony M-110

Product of New York AKA PONY joined forces with Ronnie Fieg during 2012 to create a hi-top sneaker made from thick red Italian leather with snakeskin-stamped pattern details altogether with tonal laces. This particular launch was released with custom packaging, a leather dust bag as well as custom engraved wooden shoe trees and shoehorn. Limited to 500 pairs worldwide, each individually numbered on the white liner.

Ronnie Fieg x Buscemi 100mm “Veg Tan / Rose Gold”

Ronnie Fieg x Buscemi 100mm "Veg Tan / Rose Gold"

This Buscemi 100mm sneaker is unisex and handcrafted in Italy. The upper is made from un-dyed veg-tan calfskin leather with a vachetta leather liner and footbed.

As expected, these aren’t cheap – the 18k rose gold plated hardware was made specifically for this release. The pair is delivered with a screwdriver for easily removable access and would set you back $800.

Ronnie Fieg x Puma RF698 Mid “Sakura”

Ronnie Fieg x Puma RF698 Mid "Sakura"

After all, we know these don’t get much love. However, we somehow like them very much. The whole upper is perforated with details in nubuck and pigskin.

Utilizing burgundy as the main color, the toebox is contrasted by a dark navy finish. The Trinomic midsole displays some faded-effects altogether with speckles.

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 1300 “Salmon Sole”

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 1300 "Salmon Sole"

Unfortunately, we don’t get to see many New Balance 1300. Amongst a few very good ones, we have the “Salmon Sole” that dropped in Fall of 2012.

A simple yet effective navy colorway is present across the upper, while details are seen in the white lining and midsole. The sole is salmon, as stated by the sneaker’s nickname.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics "Kith Football Equipment" Pack

Paying tribute to the World Cup in Brazil and after a very successful pop-up shop in Brazil, the “KFE Pack” are displayed in a way that represents both nations that took drawing inspiration for the creation of the Gel Lyte III and the GTII: USA and Brazil.

We know they are not everyone’s cup of tea, but both pairs played a big role when it comes to footwear once they were released. We won’t surprise you here – we just love the gold Gel Lyte III!

Ronnie Fieg x Slam Jam x Diadora RF7000 “Primo”

Ronnie Fieg x Slam Jam x Diadora RF7000 "Primo"

Ronnie Fieg joined forces with Slam Jam and Diadora to produce a classic V7000 silhouette. The “Primo” displays a unique asymmetrical leather toebox and the colors used are considered to be a deviation of the Italian flag.

In addition, the upper is built using pebbled nubuck, full grain leather, and pigskin suede while the inner liner uses cow leather and custom-debossed insoles.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics GT Cool Express “Sterling”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics GT Cool Express "Sterling"

The GT Cool Express, in general, is a model that does not break necks, however, we do feel slightly inclined to like this one. The “Sterling” was released under the radar, somehow, and unfortunately, we don’t get to see many around.

The silhouette features a pigskin suede sterling blue toebox with small salmon details. In addition, the heel combines hues of beige altogether with a white midsole.

Ronnie Fieg x Bape “Fiegstas”

Ronnie Fieg x Bape "Fiegstas"

The “Fiegstas” are handmade in Portugal featuring a premium suede upper, sitting on top of a rubber white midsole while asymmetrical co-branding is seen on heel tab as well as on the insoles.

The pair is delivered in a custom branded box with special shoe-trees and dustbag.

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 997.5 “Cyclades”

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 997.5 "Cyclades"

Being the first individual person to collaborate on a New Balance 997.5, the Cyclades was inspired by a luxurious resort in Mykonos. The orange toebox represents the sun-umbrellas, the beige midfoot resembles the sand while de aqua-green displays the waters of the Aegean Sea.

In addition, the upper is built using premium pigskin suede with 3M details while sitting on a 998 ABZORB midsole.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Homage”

asics gel lyte iii ronnie fieg homage

As seen throughout the years, Ronnie likes to work on the Gel Lyte III. Paying homage to his long-lasting business relationship with Asics, the “Homage” pays tribute to 13 of his past creations.

We know it is a difficult pair to wear, no doubt, and some only have them as a collector’s item, but this iteration truly shows the amount of work, passion, and imagination that Fieg has put into his works with Asics, being part of the 25th Anniversary of the Gel Lyte III.

Ronnie Fieg x adidas Consortium Response Trail Boost

Ronnie Fieg x adidas Consortium Response Trail Boost

When the adidas Response Trail Boost was released, it was an instant hit. Different from what we are used to, this silhouette represents the evolution of trail shoes, merging its technical qualities with lifestyle visuals.

The upper features a mesh vamp altogether with a neoprene collar with premium tumbled nubuck overlays. In between so many details, we can add that the Continental outsole takes inspiration from the Trail King bike tires, creating extreme grip in all weather conditions.

Ronnie Fieg x Diadora Intrepid “From Seoul To Rio”

Ronnie Fieg x Diadora Intrepid "From Seoul To Rio"

Yet again, (if you look back at the KFE Pack) Ronnie Fieg took inspiration from Sports – but in this case, from the Olympics. Part of the “From Seoul to Rio” initiative, this iconic 80s silhouette displays hues of teal, orange, navy, and pink.

The upper features rugged pebbled nubuck with a lush pigskin suede toebox. 500 pairs were launched globally.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Diablo “Volcano 2.0”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Diablo "Volcano 2.0"

This Gel Diablo marks the first-ever collaboration on such silhouette. Originally released in 1995 and released in many colorways straight after, this shoe created quite a buzz, even for sneakerheads that have never heard of the shoe.

This pair, in particular, was Made in Japan and, as trends are sifting, bulky midsoles are back in fashion – this release totally and silhouette matches the current likes of Instagram influencers.

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Militia”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III "Militia"

Years have passed since we have seen an iteration of the Gel Lyte III named “Mossad”. However, Ronnie made all sneakerhead’s wishes come true and released a very similar colorway dubbed “Militia”.

The pair is dressed in premium olive green premium nubuck and pigskin suede. This was an instant sell out and reached crazy resell prices as soon as they were launched.

We should add that before the pair was released, there was a giveaway together with Nice Kicks of the original pair. Yes, a release of a 1-of-1 pair.

Ronnie Fieg x Filling Pieces “RF-Mid”

Ronnie Fieg x Filling Pieces "RF-Mid"

Joining forces with Amsterdam-based Filling Pieces, Fieg created a new silhouette named “RF-Mid”, featuring a full nubuck upper and KITH brandings on the tongue while Fieg’s brandings are on the heels.

Out of the two released colorways, we came to the conclusion that the wheat one is the best. The whole Filling Pieces range is Made in Portugal.

Ronnie Fieg x Nike Air Maestro II

Ronnie Fieg x Nike Air Maestro II

For last but not least, and in celebration of KITH Sports launch, we need to include the Nike Air Maestro II High. This silhouette, in particular, was worn by Scottie Pippen before he received his first signature shoe.

A handful of colorways should be released, but our favorite is the purple, no doubt!

Ronnie Fieg, a Footwear Visionary:

In fact, Mr. Fieg’s most recent venture always seems to be his best. There is no such thing as slowing down a creative path that began more than 10 years ago.

Perhaps one of his prominent talents is his ability to get people to become emotional about his creations. Love it, or hate it, the designer’s skills and expertise are undeniable.

Ronnie Fieg sneakers are always going to be a subject, no matter what. Moreover, the best Ronnie Fieg collabs always tend to trigger extreme feelings and that is, in fact, the most important thing when you create something.

So, what makes Mr. Fieg’s design work so special?

It is difficult to make a difference and even more in the world of footwear, however, Ronnie Fieg has managed to do precisely that over the years. Fieg created and offered his talent to special projects and collaborations creating totally fresh and never before seen aesthetic approaches to distinct footwear pieces.

Sneakers, boots, loafers, cooperation with brands such as adidas, ASICS, Buscemi, Clarks, New Balance, Nike, Puma, Sebago, and several others are just some of the greatest highlights.

A look at the Best Diadora Collaborations of 2017

Diadora is one of the most active footwear brands when it comes to collaborations, therefore to create a list of some of the best Diadora collabs of 2017 is just very much necessary. Check out our list of the best Diadora collabs of 2017.

UBIQ x Diadora N9000 “Whiz Wit”

In January 2017, there was no better way for Diadora to start off the year, even though this collaboration was launched very much under the radar. The UBIQ x Diadora N9000 “Whiz Wit” was inspired by the Philly Cheesesteak, a local dish of Philadelphia which is UBIQ’s home.

Fusing local history with Italian craftsmanship, this premium leather, and suede sneaker is a must-have for any Diadora-head. Details are seen the special insoles, speckled midsoles, and four lace options.

Patta x Diadora S8000 “Pagoda Blue”

Amsterdam’s finest also released another great pair of Diadora. Fortunately, you don’t get to see many iterations of the S8000 and unfortunately, this silhouette does not get enough love. On the other hand, around here, we just love it!

Following a V7000 release in 2016, this unique silhouette came to life in brighter colors and built using retro materials like suede and mesh.

The color detail on this pair is just out of this world: aqua-blue on side panels, orchid-purple on heel and mustard on the side-stripe. The pair is delivered with two additional laces altogether with a Made in Italy original Diadora tracksuit from the 90s.

Hanon x Diadora V7000 “Midnight Express”

The V7000 is a running silhouette that originally released in the 90s and most probably is one of our favorite silhouettes from the whole catalog.

Continuing the “Saturday Special” theme, the black upper is built using silky pig suede, kangaroo leather as well as ostrich leather applied on the side stripes.

Don’t be fooled, this pair has amazing details and is inspired by the “InterCity” sleeper train. For last but not least, the “Midnight Express” displays great 3M details.

Afew x Diadora V7000 “Highly Addictive”

The hype was big on this one and it is our favorite Diadora collaboration up ’till now. AFEW from Dusseldorf released the V7000 “Highly Addictive” back in April and it was a true hit.

Using kangaroo leather, pigskin suede, furry suede and engineered mesh for the upper, merging quality with athletic wear, this collaboration came together in the best possible way.

With its mint and coral color-scheme altogether with details on heel and insoles, a blister-box was specially designed for this release. Furthermore, an F&F pair was also released, in black, and limited to only 50 pairs worldwide.

Diadora x Titolo Intrepid “Five Almonds”

Paying tribute to traditional and matrimonial candy, the Diadora x Titolo Intrepid “Five Almonds” was released using pastel hues and built only with premium materials.

Following Italian culture, the almonds given at Italian weddings represent wishes for health, wealth, happiness, fertility and longevity.

In addition, the Intrepid was a model that was taken from Diadora’s archive and honestly speaking, even though they are not everyone’s cup of tea, we had a pleasant surprise when they were released.

TGWO x Diadora “The Rise and Fall of The Roman Empire” & “S.P.Q.R”

The Good Will Out has been on a full-sprint mode in 2017, not just with Diadora. However, they have released three collaborations, using three different models.

The V7000 and S8000 are part of ‘The Rise and Fall of The Roman Empire Pack’ while the N9000 are named “S.P.Q.R. Senatus Populusque Romanus” and limited to 447 pairs worldwide.

We would have to make a singular article about these three pairs to let you know everything about them.

For now, just trust us – they are all truly amazing!

Social Status x Diadora B.Elite “X-Pic”

It is true that every single collaboration we have talked about goes back to the running side of Diadora. Social Status went the opposite way and decided to create an on-court classic collaboration.

The B.Elite was introduced back in the 80s and now, decades after, they get a full make-over inspired by traditional desert moccasin slippers. Released in two colorways, these are true bangers! For last, a special edition t-shirt was also released together with the pairs.

After all this, can we say that this is the year for Diadora? We have to wait a bit more to find out. Although, let’s not forget about the next Diadora release, the already super-hyped  “Correfocs” with LimitEDitions.

Diadora and collaborations: an ongoing story

For obvious reasons, we are sure you have heard about Diadora. Now, how much do you know about the brand? We can fill you in.

Diadora’s first product had nothing to do with shoes, on the contrary – their first “invention” was some kind of hiking boots, and this happened back in the 50s. Before entering the so-called “athletic scene”, Marcello Danieli started to observe what people needed, therefore, he built skiing boots.

With the boom of sports around the world, Diadora decided to go ahead and create athletic shoes, not only runners – a great example of that would be Björn Borg, a Swedish professional tennis player that even has his own signature shoe.

Long story short, Diadora plays a big role when it comes to footwear and is still manufacturing in Italy. Their middle name is “quality”, as seen per the models that are shown here.

Celebrate Catalonia: LimitEDitions x Diadora N9000 “Correfocs”

The Diadora Correfocs is the new collaboration between LimitEDitions and Diadora.

The design of the shoe is inspired by Correfocs, a Catalan festival including fireworks as well as dancing devils and dragons.

In medieval tradition, it resembles the fight of good VS evil. The festival was once forbidden in Spain.

However, following the end of Franco’s dictatorship, the street-fest came back to life.

Being one of the leading cultural festivals in Barcelona, the “Fire Runs” (AKA Correfocs) is the major inspiration for the design of the shoe.

Dressed in black and red, just like the “devil”, this particular release promises to be a true hit. Just like the first Diadora collaboration with the shop, the Castellers.

In short, the sneakers and the details are just out of this world. They are hand-made in Italy and built only using premium materials.

When it comes to the details, it is a guarantee that you blow you away.

Have a look at the pictures (including the ones from behind the scenes) to find out a bit more.

Only 400 pairs of the Diadora N9000 Correfocs will be made.

One More Time: LimitEDitions x Diadora

Throughout the years, Diadora has proven to be one of the best non-hype brands in the world. Some fans say that they release way too many collaborations while others, on the other hand, keep on buying every single pair released.

Born over 50 years ago in Italy, the brand has been growing, collaborating immensely with BAIT as well as re-releasing retro pairs from their vault. It is obvious that collaborations bring some glamour and prestige to the brand, but one particular release that stood out a bit more than the others was the Castellers in 2015 from LimitEDitions, based in Spain.

After all, the pair is one of the most sought after from the brand, getting up to quite steep price-tags on resell markets. Around the web and Facebook groups, we have heard that a “second” pair would be releasing.

Well, that rumor has just proven to be true. Even though there isn’t much information just as yet regarding the pair, the pictures show a red toebox in suede; further details are seen on the branded insoles.

Social Status joined Diadora for the B. Elite

The Social Status x Diadora B. Elite “X-Pic” is a brand new take on the classic Borg Elite. The Diadora B. Elite does not get much hype, at least with the new generation of the so-called “sneakerheads”. However, Social Status is set to change that with this release.

Back in the days, the model was cherished in the hood, hence, Social Status brand is also releasing “Neighborhood Hope Dealers” t-shirts, complementing the launch of this court-silhouette. No pictures have been released apart from the ones displayed on this post.

Nonetheless and from what we can understand, the release will consist of full-suede uppers in beige and wine colour as well as white midsoles.

About Social Status:

Social Status was born in Charlotte during 2005, putting lifestyle way-of-living back into the character and ambiance of shopping. They stock the latest sneakers and are slowly growing in luxury-fashion.

Earlier this year they have partnered with Sneakersnstuff with the release of an Ultraboost. The limited edition was part of the adidas Consortium Tour. This drop, however, targets a completely different audience with a story that comes straight from the streets.

The Social Status x Diadora B. Elite “X-Pic” and all the apparel will release exclusively on their website and instore. While you’re here, get to know more about the best Diadora collabs and also about the incredible history of Diadora.

Top 10 Sneakers Available at Caliroots

For our latest Top 10 list, we take a look at some of the best sneakers available at retailer Caliroots. From old favorites to modern drops, check out or roundup:

Nike Air Force 1 LV8

I’m not sure I can put together a list of Top 10 anything without including the Air Force 1. The history behind this sneaker alone is worthy of consideration.

A staple of the late 1980’s basketball sneaker scene, the AF1 stands as one of the most enduring designs ever.

A big part of that popularity has to do with its pricing and overall comfort/ quality. This LV8 iteration continues that streak by employing a touch of bold textile on the AF1’s all-leather upper.

A summer-ready addition, we also see a Light Blue hue sitting on a White midsole. Cop these at Caliroots here.

Nike Air Foamposite One “Copper”

As far as interesting sneaker stories go, the background of the Air Foamposite is pretty considerable. After all, this is a shoe that has some of the brand’s most innovative research and development efforts behind it.

The Posite material all over the upper is the result of some wild idea to take a liquid, cool it into a solid, and slap it on a shoe in a wavy pattern.

Today, the Foamposite, in both its functional forms, is as popular on the streets as it is on the NBA hardwood. Nike has spent the last few years bringing back some of the most popular Foams, with this year reaching a peak as the anniversary of the iconic model.

This Copper iteration is still the same technical marvel, now sporting a colorway last seen in 2010. Grab your own pair here.

Adidas Iniki Runner

Adidas is on some kind of incredible run lately. In fact, you’d probably be forgiven for not immediately thinking of Yeezy every time.

The Iniki Runner is one of my favorite examples of the brand’s ability to stay in touch with what fans are looking for.

As popular as the NMD and Ultra Boost models are, there is a very real desire for adidas to dig into its archives.

With this runner, the brand does just that, taking Boost back to the 1980’s.

The Iniki’s upper is a nostalgic combination of mesh and smooth suede overlays, complemented by a minimalist tongue and leather detailing.

These things are selling fast, but you can scoop up this Blue/ Grey/ Gum pair right now.

Puma Suede Classic Easter

You don’t need much to justify purchasing these beauties. The Puma Suede carries with it style versatility and budget pricing that still finds universal appeal.

It’s a sneaker that combines a sharp form, some old school hits, and a generous layering of suede.

Take them to work or show them off on your next night out. Either way, you be certain you’re doing so without having to break the bank. Check out this limited edition Easter pair now, including an intriguing midsole design.

adidas UltraBoost Uncaged

In case, the minimal caging on the standard UltraBoost isn’t quite minimal enough for you, this iteration is still a viable choice.  As usual, we see the Primeknit upper, this time completely unstained by the synthetic stylings of the standard model.

That featherweight upper is held up by a hefty layer of Boost.  Having gone through an extremely successful debut, you can now find this model at Caliroots in a good selection of sizes here.

Air Jordan 1 Mid Team Royal

If you’re a fan of the Air Jordan 1, the OG of OG’s, you’re probably also a fan of either release day heartbreak or ridiculously high resale prices.  No? Not a fan? Just a constantly frustrated sneakerhead? Gotcha. Well, we feel for you.

As a consolation, you can scoop up this Air Jordan 1, in a lovely Team Royal scheme, here.

Reebok Classic Leather SM

The Reebok Classic Leather is another one of those staple models that can surprise you.  When you’re at a sneaker store somewhere and you’re just picking up shoes to feel them out, see how they have they are,

Reebok isn’t quite top of mind. But, when you pick up a pair of CLs, you might get fixated. Known more for budget pricing and lowkey heat, Reebok’s Classic Leather model is all about packing in competent materials, comfort, and clean finish into an affordable package.

Check these out, in a great run of sizes, here.

Asics Gel-Lyte III

The Gel-Lyte III was an absolute technical marvel upon its initial debut. Sure, it sported some of the major design staples of the time – leather or suede uppers, mesh base, etc – but it also brought about something new.

The brand’s GEL cushioning system, a surprisingly stable and responsive option, blew away many people’s expectations. One of the more remarkable aspects of this set up was how minimal it seemed in terms of aesthetics.

Unlike, say, Nike’s Air Max line, models like the Gel-Lyte III packed all of their cushioning prowess into a midsole that didn’t look like it was carrying much at all.

For this iteration, we get a tonal Red take on the shoe, including an interesting heel detailing that resembles luxury baggage. Find these here.

Diadora N9000 “Camo”

Diadora’s line of runners is something most sneakerheads will know about, but only the form-obsessed will appreciate.  Though a bigger name in the Euro sneaker scene, the Italian brand has made a global reputation for quality materials and iconic silhouettes.

The N9000 is arguably the most recognizable of Diadora’s catalog.  Here, we see the legendary runner take on sections of suede, textile, and leather, visually popping thanks to an all-over Camo color scheme.

Still available in a fairly good run of sizes, you can check this model out here.

Converse Chuck Taylor II Hi

It’s easy enough to sit here and give you a history lesson on the Chuck Taylor model.  But, we already know about the shoe’s legendary background as a truly OG basketball sneaker, that’s not the appeal here.

Instead, the Chuck Taylor III is all about slight modern upgrades that make big improvements to the original. The most common concern with Chucks, as popular as they are, is the lack of durability and long-term comfort on the midsole.

To fix that, the standard rubber midsole gives way to Nike’s Lunarlon cushioning. Check them out at Caliroots here.

From streetwear to top-tier basketball sneakers, you can find a ton over at Caliroots.

This list just happens to be some of my favorites at the moment. Check out their full catalogue online and pick out your own list! While you’re here, make sure to also check out the Top 10 Best adidas UltraBOOST Uncaged colorways available now.
